Sofía Rosales Juárez, MAATC, LPC, is a bilingual clinical counselor and art therapist. They are a Mexican immigrant, writer and interdisciplinary artist passionate about social justice and disability justice. Sofía graduated from Chicago Public Schools and earned their Bachelor of Arts from Carleton College. In 2021, they earned their Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
During the last 5 years, they have had the honor of working with and supporting children, adolescents and adults of all backgrounds including low-income, immigrant and first-generation families, sexual and domestic violence survivors, and individuals with mood disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. Sofía’s therapy approach is most often humanistic, client-centered and rooted in evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Their interventions often include play, art-making, mindfulness-based practices, narrative and talk therapy.
Sofía has confidence that with time, effort and self-awareness, all of us can develop a nurturing relationship with ourselves that is rooted in self-acceptance, self-love and self-respect. They believe that all children and adults have a right to resources and services that empower them to live a life with dignity.
