Vania Sulley is a clinical counselor and art therapist. She received her bachelor's in psychology with minors in studio art and human services from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, and received her master’s degree in Art therapy and Counseling from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Vania utilizes a humanistic, egalitarian, and person-centered approach when working with clients. Her clinical background has been in community mental health, and her interests include using a trauma-informed approach to work with complex grief, survivorship, and individuals who have been involved in the justice system.
Vania believes art therapy’s focus on the process of an individual’s art instead of the product allows for people to take the pressure off of their artistic abilities and use that energy to focus on what comes up for them in the artmaking process. In her practice, she believes her role is to create a safe and welcoming environment, and help guide the person they’re working with through their art making, and through the meaning-making process of their art. She also believes it is important not to disrupt what is already working for people and to utilize those tools in session to better align with their healing process. In her free time Vania can be found making art or reading.
